Overview
PartnerTap publishes an MCP server that lets an AI assistant read your PartnerTap reports and answer questions about them in conversation. It is read-only: an assistant can look at your mapped partner, account and pipeline data, but it cannot change anything in PartnerTap.
Everything the server returns is scoped to you. The assistant sees the same records you would see if you opened the report yourself, with the same permissions, data visibility, and the same contact-privacy rules applied.
What you can ask
Once connected, you ask questions in plain language and the assistant pulls the data it needs. For example:
- "Show me which partners have customer relationships with [x account]"
- "Who is the partner account owner at [x partner org]?"
- "Which of my accounts are targets for [x sales play]?"
- "Which partner do I have the most new logo opportunities with?"
- "Which partners can help me expand my customers that meet A, B, C criteria?"
- "Where should Partner A and I focus to drive the most expansion sales?"
- "Where is the whitespace opportunity with my XYZ partners?"
- "Which partners should I include in an upcoming event or campaign?"
- "Which accounts should we target for the upcoming partner marketing campaign?"
- "Which partners should I work with to accelerate my Q3 opportunities?"
- "Which partners can help me un-stick my stalled Q4 deals?"
The assistant works out which report to read and which filters to apply, then answers from the rows it gets back. You can ask follow-up questions in the same conversation.
Before you connect
Access is not switched on by default. It has to be enabled for your organization and for your user role, which is a change only PartnerTap can make.
- Any user that wants to use the PartnerTap MCP must have a PartnerTap license.
- If you are a PartnerTap customer and want access enabled, contact your PartnerTap account team or PartnerTap support.
Connecting
The PartnerTap MCP server is a remote MCP server. There is nothing to install and nothing to run locally. Its address is: https://mcp.partnertap.com/mcp
Authentication is standard OAuth against your own PartnerTap login. There is no API key to create, no token to copy, and nothing to register in advance. Because the connection is tied to your login, the server only ever acts as you.
Connecting from Claude
There are two ways.
1. From the connector directory
Open Settings, go to Connectors, browse the directory and add PartnerTap. This is the simplest route: you do not need to enter an address.
2. As a custom connector
Open Settings → Connectors, choose Add custom connector, and enter the server address above. Then sign in with your normal PartnerTap credentials when the browser window opens and confirm that you want to connect.
Either way, you end up with the same connection and the same capabilities. The custom connector route also works if your organization has not enabled directory connectors.
Connecting from other MCP clients
Any client that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth authentication can connect using the same address. Setup differs by client, so follow your client's instructions for adding a remote MCP server.
What the server exposes
Four read-only tools. You do not call these yourself; the assistant uses them on your behalf when you ask a question.
- List reports: the reports and report types you can query.
- Describe report filters: the fields of a report you can filter on, and how.
- Get report filter values: the valid values for one of those fields, so the assistant filters on real values instead of guessing.
- Query report: a page of rows from a report, with filters, search, sorting and a choice of columns.
What the server can and cannot do
The server can read report data you already have access to, list the reports available to you, and explain what a report's fields and filters mean.
The server cannot:
- Change, create or delete anything in PartnerTap. There is no write capability of any kind.
- See data belonging to another organization, or data your own permissions do not cover.
- See contact details that PartnerTap already hides from you.
- Read anything from your assistant account, including your conversations, files, memory or history. The server only answers requests for PartnerTap report data.
For administrators: controlling what assistants can see
In PartnerTap, go to Admin Center → Feature Settings → AI Context, where you can:
- Disable fields from server view. Fields containing sensitive data can be disabled so it is never sent to the server. These fields can remain visible in the PartnerTap app.
- Describe fields in your own language, so the assistant understands what type of data fields contain and how to correctly evaluate them.
- Describe business context about what your company sells, to whom, and who your partners are, as well as specific business priorities, GTM initiatives, and key strategies so answers are relevant to your business.
These settings apply to AI access only. Nothing you change there affects what your users see in the web application.
Usage tips
- A single request times out after 45 seconds. Narrowing the question with filters is faster than asking for everything. For example, instead of "Show me all my accounts", ask:
- "Show me all my accounts in Boston, New York and Philadelphia", or
- "Show me all mutual customers with Partner A"
Troubleshooting
The sign-in window closes and the connection does not complete.
Access has not been enabled for your organization or for the role. Contact your account team or PartnerTap support to request access.
The assistant says your PartnerTap account could not be resolved.
Your user account needs to be active in PartnerTap. Sign in to PartnerTap in a browser first; if that fails too, contact support.
The assistant says a report cannot be queried.
Your user account does not have access to the PartnerTap report. The assistant will list the reports you can query.
An answer looks incomplete on a very large report.
Ask a narrower question, add a filter, a region, or a date range, rather than asking for the whole report.
